This separation is visualized here by multidimensional scaling (MDS). A: Based on the gene expression patterns of the specific functional gene cluster, the pairwise Euclidean distance between the COPD samples is shown in a two-dimensional space. B: The visualization from Figure 1 A is further supported by a heatmap depiction. This heat map shows the relative (z-score) expression level for each gene and sample combination. A high expression level is associated with red, while green represents a low expression level.
